The Northern Lights
at the Yukon

Location: Yukon River, Circle, AK
Latitude: 6549'
Camera: Canon EOS 5D Mark II
Lens: EF 14mm f/2.8L

Sky watchers at high latitudes witnessed the most active Northern Lights in many years with the anticipated onset of a high speed coronal wind stream combined with a southward pointing interplanetary magnetic field (IMF). The disturbance produced long periods of minor to major geomagnetic storm conditions and colorful auroras between 12:00-17:00 UTC on March 1, 2011.
